Nightmare Scrapbook For September, 2001
|

The Eighth Month of Command
No plan survives first contact
with reality and the Nightmares found their Red Beach deployment cancelled unexpectedly. No
worries--the same type of training (absent logistics practice) was accomplished on a stretch of
taxiway at home. As a consequence, the Nightmares happened to be local on 11 September, when life
became a little busier.
The Nightmares performed acceptance
inspections on two new pilots this month. The Cow's future replacement, "Grouper," arrived in
plenty of time to get a detailed turnover from "Zieg," who is departing for the Commanding Officer's
seminar in Quantico. Zieg will assume command of the VMA-311 "Tomcats" in the very near future.
The squadron will miss Zieg very much. The Nightmares were compensated by the arrival of "Fraggle"
at the end of the month. Sadly, he made the mistake of arriving with a callsign that was excessively
cool, so it changed....
Below, "Fraggle" (left) is spotted at tea with our venerable (and beloved) Royal Air Force exchange
pilot, "Maccer."
