Nightmare Scrapbook For October, 2001
| |

The Nineth Month Of Command
In the aftermath of America's entry into a war on terrorism last month,
updates to this website will continue to be written. However, in the interest of
operational security and force protection, there may be pauses from time to time
until updates can be published without compromising our mission. The Flying Nightmares are
highly motivated, well-trained and combat ready. Should there be any delays, be confident in
the knowledge that the Nightmares are well.
Semper Fidelis!
In preparation for deployment, the Nightmares conducted FCLP's (field carrier landing practice)
out in the desert at "Aux II" (auxiliary landing site made of steel matting--shown above). Afterward, two
of our LSO's (landing signal officers) flew to San Diego to train the flight deck personnel
aboard an LHD at San Diego. The Cow accompanied them to meet with the ship's Captain and the
Air Boss. The scenes that follow were taken on the flight line at NAS
North Island and aboard the USS Boat, where Screech and Critter conducted training for 120
sailors.
Average term of enlistment: 4 years
Average time to the rank of Corporal: +/- 30 months
A motivational promotion speech from your CO: Terrific
Seeing your Sergeant Major cry as the CO pins you: PRICELESS
Coming soon...
"Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say, 'What
should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and our
posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship, and plough, and sow, and
reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let
loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face
of the earth? If ye love wealth better than liberty, the
tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us
in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch
down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon
you, and may posterity forget that ye were our
countrymen!"
-- Samuel Adams

All Nightmare pilots are day, night, and night vision goggle current for aircraft carrier
