Nightmare Scrapbook For June, 2001

The Fifth Month of Command . . .
ESCAPING THE HEAT
On June 1st, the Nightmares interrupted their night systems phase of block training in order
to march in the new Group Commander's change of command ceremony. 'Ragu' was only able to
transmit his commander's guidance for a week before embarking upon a two week
quest to move his family west from Virginia. During that time, the Cow served as acting Group
Commander, carved his initials into the boss's desk, and pretended to be King. (It's good
to be King.)
On June 14, General Bolden held his quarterly commander's
conference at MCAS Miramar CA. In recognition of Flag Day, the General grabbed a microphone and
sang 'Proud To Be An American.' The General need do nothing more to prove his bravery to
the Cow.
The Nightmares qualified Jolly, Screech, Critter and Torch in Night Systems and recertified Cow
and Cliffy as Night Systems Instructors. Taking a break from night flying, 50 Nightmares
climbed aboard a KC-130 which was assigned to aerial refuel Waldo and Cow en route to New
Orleans. Unfortunately, a stationary tropical storm settled over the destination, with flooding
that killed 21 people all told. The Nightmares decided to divert to San Antonio for a night on
the River Walk before retreating to (too) sunny Yuma. The Nightmares sent a signed lithograph
to the "Raiders" of VMGR-352 in appreciation for their superior support, and the following
images are dedicated to them.
